Wu Tang Clan and H.P. Lovecraft nail sets

I recently did two sets of nails on myself that are my favorites so far.  Currently there is an acrylic overlay on my natural nails that I put after I broke a few nails in one day.  I sculpted over three of my nails to make the length match

These are my Wu Tang Nails!  From left to right I will list what I did or used for each nail:
1. OPI Candlelight base, Cult Nails Nevermore with a striper brush to make bumble bee stripes.
2. Cult Nails Tempest base with Dollish Polish Urban Camo on top.
3. Reverse french with Tempest and Nevermore with rhinestones and studs glued on top.
4. OPI Candlelight base and Nevermore striped for my Tiger Style nail!
5. Cult Nails Quench with OPI Man With the Golden Gun real gold topcoat, I had to bring some gold to the Wu-Mani.
6. Candlelight base and Nevermore painted around the yellow to make the Wu Tang W.
7. Quench with a black rhinestone.
8. Candlelight and Nevermore to paint my cute lil Killa Bee!
9. Nevermore base and a black chain glued in a pile on top.
10. Reverse french with Tempest and Quench and a bunch of rhinestones on top!

This was a manicure that I really didn't want to take off, I even left it on two days, which is unusual for me.

This H.P. Lovecraft manicure is the one I am currently wearing.  From left to right again:
1. Nevermore with Girly Bits Magically Delicious gradient.
2. Dollish Polish Toxic Avenger, one of my favorite polishes ever!  All the symbols on different fingers are from the Necronomicon, any circles I replaced with rhinestones.  All of the symbols were drawn on with a Kiss nail art pen in black, since I was working on my non dominant hand I figured a pen would be easier than a brush.
3. Cult Nails Nevermore with three 5mm silver spikes.
4. Liquid Glam Lightning Storm, I will be swatching this polish on its own soon.
5. OPI Just Spotted the Lizard
6. Cult Nails Tempest base, then I painted a cute Cthulhu with China Glaze Budding Romance and I used Nevermore and a dotting tool for the eyes.
7. Just Spotted the Lizard again and a spike for the arrow on the symbol.
8. I should make my own water decals sometime, but I just printed out a picture of Lovecraft and top coated it down.
9. & 10. Toxic Avenger and Necronomicon symbols on both.

I think this was the first time my right hang made an appearance on the blog!  The complicated manicure post is done, so that's all for now.

China Glaze Wicked Immortal, Roguish Red & Make A Spectacle

Here is the last of the China Glaze Wicked Halloween collection.

Roguish Red is a bright red orange, I used two coats.

Immortal is a grey with blue undertones and purplish shimmer.  This is a really pretty color.  I used two coats as well.

The final polish is Make A Spectacle a gorgeous iridescent hex glitter and flakie topcoat. I applied two coats over Immortal.

This entire collection can be worn year round, and I would suggest picking it up before they're gone.

Witches-This Is Halloween Challenge

This post is so late!  Between parties and stressing out over hurricane preparedness I didn't post this one on time.  I also am not the biggest fan of how this came out.  I decided to try making some witch wart nails.

I used two coats of OPI Don't Talk Bach To Me, then I sponged on spots of China Glaze Winter Holly and Milani Black Magic.  I painted some sticky backed rhinestones from a cheap Walgreens Halloween kit with OPI Live And Let Die and attached them.  This was not what I was going for, but I had 30 minutes to paint and shoot a picture before we left for a party.  The colors and painting method need to change, but the rhinestones worked for the bumbs.

China Glaze Glitter Goblin and Bizarre Blurple

Here are two more polishes from the China Glaze Wicked Halloween collection.

First is Bizarre Blurple, the name perfectly describes this color.

Bizarre Blurple
I wasn't too excited for this color, but I loved it once it was on the nail.  This is two coats of Bizarre Blurple.

Next is Glitter Goblin, I love a Halloween glitter bomb!  I used three coats.

Glitter Goblin in the shade.
Glitter Bomb has orange micro glitter, it looks like there is silver and holographic glitter as well!  This is an amazing polish.  The next picture is a little out of focus, so you can see it shining.

There are still a few more colors in this collection that will be posted soon.

Bauhaus Bats This Is Halloween Challenge Day 19

It's Bat day for the This Is Halloween Challenge started by Bec @ Lacquer Dreams. I had to go to Bauhaus and the Bela Lugosi's Dead cover, on my thumb at least.

For my thumb, I have a coat of Milani White On The Spot, I used Kiss nail art pens in black and silver to draw in the small details and lines. I painted the tip with Milani Black Magic and also used that to sponge in the color on the wings.

My index finger is three coats of China Glaze Glistening Snow, a beautiful silver holographic from the Holiday Joy Collection for Holiday 2012 and a tip of Black Magic. I made some bats out of different texture and glitter cardstock with a Studio G punch and attached one here. My middle finger is two coats of Black Magic, a tip of Man Glaze The Death Tar, and two more bats.

The ring finger is one coat of White On The Spot, then newsprint technique (directions are at the end of the post if you don't know how to do it) with paper that I printed.  It has "undead undead undead" in Bauhaus font, these are lyrics from Bela Lugosi's Dead.

The pinkie is three coats of Layla Hologram Effect in Flash Black (tip for Hologram polishes like this: use Sally Hansen Insta-Dry as a base and as a coat in between the normal coats and you don't have to use the recommended file and you won't get bald spots) and one more bat for the tip.

There is a lot of different stuff going on in this manicure, but that is what I envisioned before starting.

Newsprint Manicure Instructions:
1. Paint your nails a light color.
2. Let them dry completely! This is why Milani White On The Spot and Black Magic are my go to undercoats, they, if applied carefully, go on in one coat and dry really fast.
3. Take the part of the newspaper that you want to transfer to the nail and put it on top of the polish.
4. Saturate a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and press on the other side of the newspaper.
5. Press down firmly on the entire nail for a few seconds.
6. Apply topcoat.

That's all until the next Halloween manicure!

Ghosts This Is Halloween Challenge day 8

I'm a few hours late on this one.  I was getting ready to publish a Halloween post when I remembered Monday was a challenge day, and ghosts, at that, which I was stumped on.  When I made the realization, we were on our way to see Adam Ant, so I had no time to do challenge nails.

I decided to do craft store micro bead ghosties!  I have three coats of the purple glow-in-the-dark pumpkin polish with China Glaze White On White making the ghost shapes, then silver micro beads on top of that.  I used black/greenish glitter circles for the eyes.

This Is Halloween Challenge Day 5 Water Marble

Today's challenge is water marble.  I had never done this before, and while I like the way it looks, I've been hesitant to try it because of the mess involved.  So, this challenge was good since I had to give it a try.

This was done with the China Glaze Wicked Hallloween Collection: Roguish Red (orangey red), Immortal (grey shimmer), Glitter Goblin (a micro multi glitter), Cast A Spell (dark green with gold shimmer) and Bizarre Blurple (a shimmer blue purple).

I am not too thrilled with the outcome here, but I suppose it could be worse!  I wanted to use the Wicked collection so I wasn't using the usual black and orange.  -->

Dollish Polish Super Mario Bros Part Two

Here are the next three colors I've swatched from the Dollish Polish Super Mario Bros collection: Toad-ally Awesome, A Peachy Princess and It's A Me, Mario!.

Two coats of Toad-ally Awesome over one coat of Nails Inc Heathrow and theBalm Hot Ticket That's Red-iculous tips

Toad-ally Awesome has a clear base with matte white glitter in different shapes and sizes combined with yellow, blue and red glitters.  The formula was great and I was able to get a variety of glitters without having to hunt for them.  I wanted to mimic Toad's fleshtone and some of the red spots in his cap with the undercoats here.

Two coats of A Peachy Princess over two coats of China Glaze Sun-Kissed (As you can see my bottle reads "Preachy", but the Dollish Polish site does show "Peachy")

Above is with a matte topcoat

A Peachy Princess has a sheer pink base filled with tons of matte, holographic and metallic pink glitters in lots of different sizes and hues.  I put it over the yellow to reflect Peach's hair.  I love pink glitters and this is one of my favorites in the collection.

Two coats of It's A Me, Mario! over two coats of Sally Hansen White On

It's A Me Mario has red and blue glitters in different shapes and sizes and holographic stars.  I generally am not a fan of glitter combinations that have stars, hearts or flowers in them, but I wish there were more stars in this polish!  So far that is my only complaint with the collection.  I only fished out one for this manicure.  It's so Nintendo to have the stars so they work great with this and the Luigi polish that you will see soon in the final installment of my Super Mario Bros swatches.

Here is Part One of the Super Mario Bros review with more Dollish Polish information for following and purchasing.

Dollish Polish Super Mario Bros. Collection Part One

I received my first Dollish Polish order this week!  I was prepared to successfully purchase the mini Mario Bros. collection even if that meant setting a 5 a.m. alarm and refreshing Dolly's Big Cartel page every 15 minutes.

This manicure is two coats of China Glaze Liquid Leather and two coats of Wicked Wario.  Wicked Wario is fine matte purple glitter in a clear base with green and yellow glitter and white squares.  After swatching the collection this was the color I was most excited to try out.  The formula was great and it was easy to pick up all the different types of glitter on the brush.  I prefer a heavier coating of glitter, even with a base color and I was satisfied after the second coat.

From antihero to villain, here is The Koopa King.  I love this polish.  Lots of sizes of yellow/gold matte glitters, along with red and green.  There is black bar glitter and holographic diamonds just like the little spikes on Bowser's collar.  This is three coats of The Koopa King over two coats of Nicole by OPI Paparazzi Don't Preach.  Two coats of top coat make the glitter smooth on these.  I really like this combination, I thought the colors would pop on a black undercoat, but I didn't want to lose the black bar glitter.

I will have reviews of the rest of the Super Mario Bros. collection soon.  Dollish Polish can be purchased through their Big Cartel site, on Llarowe, and at Overall Beauty.  Follow Dolly on facebook for updates on when the Super Mario Bros. collection will be available again, as it is currently sold out.  The next Dollish Polish restock of other colors on Big Cartel is in August.
